Reflections on Life, Time and “The Spark”

Chemistry between lovers

As we grow older, it's natural to start feeling like time is slipping away from us. We may find ourselves looking back on our youth with nostalgia, wishing we could go back to those carefree days. But what if it were possible to actually feel young again, even just for a little while?

Feeling young again is more than just a physical sensation; it's an attitude, a state of mind. It's about embracing the present moment, letting go of worries about the future and regrets about the past. It's about being open to new experiences and not letting fear hold us back.

One way to feel young again is to connect with others. As we get older, it can be easy to become isolated and disconnected from the people around us. But social connections are an essential part of our well-being, and they can help us feel more engaged with life. And, of course, it’s no secret that connecting with a gorgeous companion who also happens to share many interests with you can really help you feel more alive and vibrant.

Of course, it may take some trial and error to find the companion that is right for you. After all, we are humans and not socks, so the “one size fits all” doesn’t really work in this particular situation, and especially if you are after a meaningful connection. But when that happens, yes I am talking about THAT, that Spark, that unexpected and inexplicable chemistry, well, that’s pretty amazing. Sometimes, people just click and have an instant rapport that feels effortless and natural.

I find extremely difficult to put feelings and sensations into words, but I would describe “The Spark” as a strong, often unexplainable connection between two individuals and that feeling of instant chemistry, understanding and attraction.

The Spark can manifest in different ways, but one common characteristic is a feeling of electricity or energy between two individuals. It's an unspoken understanding that draws two people towards each other, often without any logical explanation. The Spark can be felt in a glance, a touch, or a conversation, and it can create a sense of excitement and anticipation that's hard to ignore.

Personally, I believe that there are several factors that can contribute to The Spark.

Physical attraction is often the first thing that draws people towards each other; yes, I am talking about that immediate and visceral attraction that is incredibly hard to resist.

But it's not the only factor. Shared interests, values, and beliefs can also create a sense of connection that goes beyond physical attraction, so I believe that emotional and intellectual attraction are also critical components of this inexplicable chemistry.

Emotional attraction is the deep, emotional connection that people feel towards each other. In my experience, this is usually based on shared values and beliefs. It often develops over time as two people get to know each other on a deeper level.

Intellectual attraction is another important aspect: it’s the compatibility of two people's intellect. This can include shared hobbies, interests, or a similar sense of humor. Intellectual attraction often creates a sense of excitement and stimulation.

Going back to the concept of “time” and particularly the feeling of time slipping away from us as we grow older: while we obviously can’t stop the ticking clock, I believe that in order to feel alive and live life to the fullest we need to keep looking for The Spark and not settle for a life that doesn’t fully make us happy, a life that we know is lacking something important - The Spark. Feelings, sensations, physical touch are what make us humans and differentiate us from the lately-much-talked-about artificial intelligence, robots, metaverse characters and so on.

Human Robot

If you do recognise that there is no Spark in your life, are you really living, or are you just existing?

Are you really human?

Do you even feel human?

Every day we grow a little older, and let’s be honest: we will not live forever. So wouldn’t it be nice to actually feel alive, and not just feel stuck in the routine, feel like we have settled for a life that doesn’t make us fully happy? We only get one life…

Time is Limited

As we all know, men are physical beings, so I’m going to give you a very basic example: when was the last time you experienced truly mind-blowing intimacy?

As humans, one way to feel really present is to (unsurprisingly!) engage in physical intimacy. (I am sure we are all aware that regular ‘physical activity’ has been shown to have numerous physical and mental health benefits, including reducing the risk of chronic diseases and improving mood). When we engage in intimacy, we release endorphins, which are chemicals that promote feelings of happiness and well-being. When was the last time you felt energetic and alive?

When was the last time you felt seen?

…heard?

…understood?

…appreciated?

…loved?

when was the last time you felt cared for?

Finally, I believe that another way to live life to the fullest and “feel young again” is embracing our creativity and curiosity. As we age, it's easy to become set in our ways and to stop exploring new ideas and experiences. But curiosity is what keeps us young at heart. Whether it's taking up a new hobby, learning a new skill, or simply being open to new ideas and experiences (like seeing a companion, for example), embracing our curiosity can help us feel more alive and engaged with the world around us.
